Owner Pilot, John Pearson in his Spitfire 26, JWP
Right: A Spitfire Mk26 flies over Marlow, (although it did not fly anywhere near
as low as this!) -
This was being piloted by John Pearson, an ex RAF Mosquito pilot in WWII. (Obviously decorated I am sure?) His MK26 was supplied as a kit which includes 700 hours of work completed in the factory alone. (It requires 1200 more hours to finish it). It is ideal for a pilots first plane.
Very low stall speed 45kts. 160kts economical cruise speed. (Around 215 flat out).
Endurance 4 hours, including a 1 hour reserve.
This is one of Supermarine aircraft’s very first Mk26b’s in flight over Australia. (Note the oil coolers beneath the wings, for authenticity). This one has an endurance of 4 hours, including one hour safety time. Three bladed composite variable pitch prop. (Powered by a ‘flat eight’ Jabiru 5100 engine: Horizontally opposed).
This is clearly a real one! ‘Standby to duck, or lose your head!’ Note the real oil
coolers beneath the wings, plus the airscoop for the Rolls Royce Merlin engine. Note
the four bladed prop, as opposed to the MK26’s three bladed and electrically controlled
variable pitch unit. -
